The ladies played the final round of their 54-hole championships on Wednesday under ideal conditions. Sandy Cook was leading the gross and the nett going into the last day. She had an 11-shot lead over Liz Hobday in the gross while she had just a one shot lead over Lynne Lamrock and another three shots ahead of Helen Edwards in the nett.

Sandy had a nervous start to the day and the twenty times ladies champion, Liz Hobday, picked up six shots on the top nine to put herself right back in contention for another win. Sandy came back on the bottom nine to finish with a score of 262 and take the gross championship by 8 shots from Liz. This was Sandy’s first ladies’ championships.

Helen Edwards improved each round to finish with 299 and take out the B-grade gross. This was one shot better than 2nd placed Trudi Tonkin. Helen had been putting well and sunk a 5-metre putt on the 18th to save having to go to a play-off.

Helen’s good form saw her also win the nett trophy with a score of 218, 4 ahead of Sandy Cook. Julie Clark and Trudi Tonkin were also in the mix for the nett prize.
