Golf Report 12/5/2020
Leon Fox was first past the post in Thursday’s 12-hole comp with 33 points. This included a 5 pointer on the 13th when he rode his 3rd shot 150 metres into the hole. Brian McLennan was 2nd with 32 points and Barry Holland 3rd with 30 points. Tom Kennedy won the putting comp again with 17 putts.
Adam Paton was the winner of Friday’s medley stableford. Adam finished with 37 points.
Undeterred by the prospect of rain, close to 70 players hit off again in Saturday’s stableford. Ten players decided that they would give it a miss when the rain arrived around 2pm and did not complete their rounds. Dave Schofield was in the winner’s circle again when he finished with 41 points. Jeremy Budda Deen came 2nd with 40 points and John Coote 3rd with 39 points. Place getters were Andrew Kerr, Tim Newberry, Adam Paton, Gordon Dean and Rod Jones all with 38 points. Tim Moses, 37 points, was the last of the place getters in a 5-way countback.
Congratulations go to Ben Butler who took out the 2020 Presidents Cup matchplay when he defeated John Foulcher 4 up with 3 holes to go on Saturday.
John had to give Ben 3 shots in the match. All was square after 8 holes and then John lost a ball on the 9th to go 1 down at the turn. John won the 10th and then squared the 11th. The match was all square after 11 holes.
Ben then took the 12th with one of his shots and then went on to record pars for the next 3 holes to take him 3 up with 4 to go.
Steve Glover, 37 points, was the winner of Sunday’s medley stableford in a countback with Harry Edmonds. Howard Finlen was the last of the prize winners in a countback with Ted Edmonds and Ben Butler. Each finished with 35 points.
Dave Schofield was out again for Tuesday’s stableford and finished another great game with 42 points. Next best, Stewart Farley, was 8 points behind with 36 points followed by Mark Lane with 34. Other place getters were Tim Newberry, Larry Finney and Gordon Dean with 33 points.
