Golf Report for the week ending 16/1/2022.

The men’s vets comp started again on Tuesday. Rob Walters was the winner with 38 points and Larry Finney the runner-up with 36. Ross Tutt and Howard Finlen were ball winners while Bob Watson and Gordon Dean picked up the nearest the pin prizes. Larry Finney took out the putting with 23 putts.

Trudi Tonkin was the winner of Wednesday’s ladies stableford with 34 points. Liz Hobday and Sandra Williams were next with 32.

The men’s 12- hole comp on Thursday was won by Leon Fox with 30 points. John Henderson, 28, and Rob Walters, 27, took 2nd and 3rd spots. Dave Ryan was nearest the pin and Steve Kent won the putting.

Sandra Williams was best in for Friday’s ladies stableford with 31 points.

This week’s Dash for Cash was won by Rob Walters in a countback with Gary Hadland.

A medley stableford was played on Saturday in conjunction with an Irish Fourball. Geoff Caban won the stableford with 41 points while one of his fourball partners, Dave Ryan, took 2nd place with 40 points. Harley Tickle and Trudi Tonkin took the next two places with 37 points. Tony Baldwin, James Davis, Nick Glover and Matt McHarg followed with 36 points. Tony Baldwin recorded an eagle on the 15th.

The team of Geoff Caban, Dave Ryan, Graham Moore and Bruce Garrett won the Irish Fourball with 88 points.

The New England District Golf Association pennants took place in Inverell on Sunday. 116 players in teams of up to 8 players representing 8 different clubs took part in either a scratch or nett event. Inverell entered one scratch team and two nett teams.

Armidale won the scratch section with a 6-man total of 438. Guyra won the nett event with a total nett of 404. Glen Innes was the runner up in both scratch and nett.

Noah Every from Glen Innes was both gross and nett winner for the day after finishing with 67 off the stick and nett 61. Local golfer, Tristan Irwin, was runner-up in the nett with 63, followed by Damien Boylan (Glen Innes) and Darrin Towells (Guyra) with scores of 64. Tim Murray (Armidale) was the gross runner-up.

Coming up this week

Dash for Cash – running each day except Saturday

Tuesday, the vets men play their 18-hole stableford hitting off at 8:30.

The ladies summer stableford is on Wednesday.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday will be a summer stableford for the ladies.

Saturday will see both the men and the ladies playing stablefords.

Sunday will be a medley stableford.

 

The RSM 2022 Sapphire Cup is fast approaching. The Tait Hino 9 hole Da$h for Ca$h will be held on Friday, January 28, The Forsyths 4BBB stableford and Inverell H Hardware 4BBB stablefords will be held over the following two days. These last two events determine the Sapphire Cup winners.
