Golf Report for the week ending 10/10/2021.

Last Monday’s Public Holiday medley stablefortd was won by Paul Amos with 37 points. He won in a countback with Tim Moses and David Hawker. Harry Edmonds was next with 33 points.

The vets ladies also played Monday. The winner was Shirley Horwood and runner up Julie McRea.

John Tom with 36 points won Tuesday’s men’s veteran comp in a countback with John Henderson. Ball winners were Dave Ryan, Doug Shirley and Barry Young. Nearest the pin were Noel Tomlinson, Steve Kent and Simon Smith and Dave Ryan won the putting.

Wednesday’s ladies stroke was won by Sue Urquhart with a nett 70. Helen Edwards and Jan Frater took 2nd and 3rd with nett 71. Julie Clark and Leonie Davison were next best with 72 nett. Note – the ladies have their AGM after presentation this Wednesday.

Paul Amos was the winner of the men’s 12-hole competition on Thursday with 30 points. Brian Winmill, 28, and Peter Payne, 27, were next best. Brian Winmill won the putting in a countback with Darrell Campbell. Rod Jones won the nearest the pin.

Helen Tickle won the ladies stableford on Friday.  She finished with 38 points and was followed by Anne Peters, 37, and Lorna Smith with 35.

Matt Reece won this week’s ‘Dash for Cash’ with points 19 points.

Saturday’s Campbell and Freebairn Inverell Mixed Open 4-ball was won by the team of Teena and Ben Myler with an impressive 51 points. Next was another mother and son team of Mary and Peter Schofield with 47 points. Lindsay Gunther and Tom Murphy combined to finish 3rd with 46 points. The Open scratch was won by Helen Tickle and John Coote 31 points.

The men’s single stableford was won by Nigel Hill with 43 points followed by Ted Edmonds and Ben Myler with 41.  Howard Finlen, 40, and Phil Fox, 38, were next best. Ball winners went down to 36.

Teena Myler was best in the ladies stableford with 38 points. She was followed by Lindsay Gunther, 37, and Lynne Lamrock and Sue Urquhart with 36.

The President’s Cup was also finalised on Saturday when Noel Cross defeated Harry Edmonds, 2 up with one hole to go.

Sunday’s, Campbell and Freebairn, Inverell Open was won by Michael Cutmore from Tenterfield. Michael finished with 64 nett and won in a countback with local, John Foulcher runnerup. Buster Crowhurst ( Glen Innes ) took out A grade with 67, Steve Kent, B Grade with 66, Chris Drake, C Grade with 65 and Ross Tutt D Grade 67.

Tim Murray, from Armidale, was the gross winner after finishing with 68 off the stick. Phil Fox, 72, and John Foulcher and John Coote were next with 74 off the stick.

Nearest the pins were Simon Green 4th & 6th, Neil Bullen 12th, Harry Edmonds 17th and Tom Murphy 18th.

Coming up this week, weather permitting.

Monday – the vets ladies play their 9-hole stableford.

Tuesday, the vets men play their 18-hole stableford hitting off at 9am.

The ladies play a 3-ball par on Wednesday.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday will see a stableford played by the ladies.

Saturday, October 16, will be a stableford for the men ( CJW Tree Services Shootout round ) and also a Stableford for the women.

Sunday will be a medley stableford and also the last chance to complete the next rounds of the Marquart Jug and Mills Plate.
