Golf Report for the week ending 1/8/2021.

Note – The course is still very wet but the top 9 is open. Players are asked to restrict the number of carts by having 2 players per cart and to stay well away from wet patches. 

The veteran men played a 4BBB on Tuesday. Players were competing for the Alan Kenny Memorial Shield as well as for the Grass Roots Vouchers provided by NSW Veteran Golfers Association. Leon Fox and Steve Kent, 46 points, combined to take the Shield in a countback with Dave Ryan and Allen Bujack. Nick Heagney, 41 points, was the winner of the single stableford which was held in conjunction with the 4-ball. Dave Ryan and Dick Hudson were runners-up while John Green, Col Flood and Graham Moore won balls. Nearest the pins were Dave Ryan, Dick Hudson and Larry Finney. Ron Cheshire won the putting.

The veteran men are reminded that their AGM will be held this Tuesday, August 3.

Anne Peters was the winner of the ladies’ vets and Lyn O’Brien was runner up.

A good field turned up for Wednesday’s ladies stableford which was won by Leonie Davison with 32 points. Lynne Lamrock and Wendy Alexander finished with 31, Helen Lockwood, 30, and Jan Frater, 29.

Ken Uebergang won the Thursday 12-hole comp with 31 points. He was followed by Allen Bujack and Trevor Kiernan with 28 points.

Gordon Dean won the putting and Allen Bujack the nearest the pin.

The ladies stableford held on Friday was won by Lyn O’Brien. Helen Tickle and Pat Pickering took 2nd and 3rd spots.

The week’s ‘Dash for Cash’ was won by Marli Gobbert with 20 points.

Saturday’s stableford for the men was won by Allen Bujack who finished a good week and great round with 41 points. Ian Jeffery, 39, Herb Cox, 35, and Aaron Coleman, 39, were the grade winners while Jason Shaw, 39, Matt Sparke and Dick Hudson, 37, James Davis and Gary Hadland, 36, and Luke Bourke, 35, picked up ball prizes.  The was the 1st round of the CJW Tree Service Shootout which was postponed due to the conditions and lack of numbers last week.

Steve Glover and John Coote took out the nearest the pins.

Trudi Tonkin was best in the ladies stableford with 31 points. She was followed by Brodie Smith and Sue Urquhart with 28.

 

Matt Spark returned on Sunday for the medley stableford. He finished with another 37 points which was good enough to win the day. Peter Schofield, 36, was the next best.

Eight Inverell players travelled to Warialda to play The Warialda Open on Sunday. Congratulations go to locals Matt Reece who won the A Grade nett, Steve Kent the B grade gross and Jason Pomfrett and Aaron Coleman for winning longest drives in B and C Grade respectively.

This week’s program

There is the daily Dash for Cash for men and women.

Tuesday, the vets ladies and men play stablefords hitting off at 9am.

The ladies will play a stableford on Wednesday.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday will see a stableford played by the ladies.

Saturday, August 7, will be a stableford for the women. The men’s comp will be a stroke, the Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug, and also the 2nd round of the CJW tree Services Shootout. Players can still enter the shootout as you need not play all rounds. Your stroke results for this week will be converted to stableford points for the Shootout.

The Marquart Jug Qualifying round is set down for the 14th of August.
