Golf Report for the week ending 21/3/2021

There were a few good scores this week but the big majority of players, particularly the shorter hitters, struggled to overcome the wet grass and lack of run.

Men’s Results

Tuesday’s veteran’s comp was won by Club President, Bob Watson, with 38 points. Simon Smith managed 36 points to take 2nd spot and he was followed by Steve Kent, 35, Gordon Dean, 34, and Larry Finney 33.

Nearest the pins were won by Dave Ryan, Rob Walters and John Foulcher while Bob Watson claimed the putting with 30 putts.

Rob Walters was the winner of this week’s Thursday’s 12-hole comp.  He has been on a winning streak and took this comp with 29 points in a countback with Bill Wade. Greg Brabrant was 3rd with 26 points.

The putting was won by Bill Wade and Nick Heagney picked up the nearest the pin.

Saturday saw 88 players turn up for a Morgan Reece sponsored mixed 4-person ambrose. The results are in the Mixed section of this report.


Ladies Results

Tuesday’s vets comp was won by Helen Tickle. Lorna Smith was the runner up.

Trudi Tonkin was the winner of Wednesday’s stableford with 33 points in a countback with Sandra Williams and Helen Lockwood. Bronwyn Thorley was next best with 32 points.

Friday’s stableford was won by Leigh Hobbs with 27 points.


Mixed Results

Last week’s 9-hole ’Dash for Cash’ was won by Dave Schofield with 18 points.

Saturday’s 4-person ambrose, sponsored by Morgan's Home Maintenance and Glass, was won by the team of Wok Smith, Steve Kent, Jeremy Tickle and Jason Pomfrett with nett 55.625. Next best was Ashley Walters, Nicky Cusack, Ben Watling and Rob Walters.

There was another good rollup for Sunday’s medley stableford. Andrew Walsh, 39 points, was this week’s winner in a 3-way countback with Anthony Hyde and Matt Reece. Justin Bushell was next best with 37 points.


The next weeks program is -

There is the daily 9-hole Dash for Cash running from Sunday through to Friday.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 23rd, the vets men will start off at 8:30 on the top 9. The vets ladies will play the bottom 9 holes at the same time hit off time.

Wednesday, the ladies play a stableford.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday is a stableford for the ladies.

Saturday, March 27, is a stableford for both the men the ladies. The men’s will also be the last chance to play the 3rd round of the President’s Cup for those still in it.
