Golf Report for the week ending 7/3/2021

Our thanks go again to greenkeeper, Ben Watling, his workmate, Andrew Bowen, and mowing volunteers for the extra work needed to keep the course in great order after the recent rain. The course and greens look a treat.

Presentation of winners for the 2020 season was held on Saturday. For a full list of winners go to https://www.inverellgolfclub.org/ and then select Events and then 2020 Club Championship List.

Men’s Results

Tuesday’s veteran’s comp, a 4-ball was won by John Foulcher and Larry Finney. Bundarra pair, Shayne O’Brien and Paul Johnson, were next best followed by Dave Ryan and Rob Walters and Richard Black and Billy Blyth. There were only two nearest the pins collected – both going to John Foulcher.

4 veterans travelled to Guyra for the Guyra vets Open Day. Gordon Dean, with 33 points, finished runner up in A Grade and also picked up a nearest the pin.

Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Barry Croft in a countback with Nick Heagney on 28 points. Ken Austin finished with 27 to take 3rd spot.

Ken Austin won the putting and Gordon Dean the nearest the pin.

Youngster, Lachlan Coakes, was the winner of the Saturday’s Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug for March. Lachlan, playing off a handicap of 20 finished 9 under his handicap, giving him a nett 61, 3 shots less than his nearest rival, Paul Amos.

Grade winners were A Grade – Harry Edmonds, 66, B Grade – Jason Coakes, 66, and C Grade – Paul Amos, 64.

Place getters were Ted Edmonds, Jack Hepi, Anthony Hyde and Bob Watson, all with nett 67. Nearest the pins were won by Steve Glover and Ken Austin.

The 1st round of the men’s Presidents Cup was completed on Sunday with some close results. Jason Shaw and Ashley Walters went to the 20th hole before Ashley took the match. Six other matches went to the 16th or further. The second round is to be completed by next Sunday, March 14.

Ladies Results

Ann Peter was Tuesday’s vets winner and Pat Pickering was the runner up.

Liz Hobday has continued on her comeback by taking out Wednesday’s stableford to add to her recent tally. Liz finished with 38 points. Bronwyn Thorley, 35, Helen Edwards, 34, and Julie Clark and Helen Lockwood, 32, to the next 4 spots.

Jan Frater, with 32 points, was the winner of Friday’s stableford in a countback with Bronwyn Thorley.

Nicky Cusack was the winner of Saturday’s stableford with 33 points.  

 

Mixed Results

Brendan Power was the best in for Sunday’s medley stableford with 36 points. Rowan Butler was next best with 34 points.

The best score in last week’s 9-hole ’Dash for Cash’ was Larry Finney with 17 points.

 

The next weeks program is -

There is the daily 9-hole Dash for Cash running from Sunday through to Friday.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 9th, the vets men will hit off at 8:30. The vets ladies will play 9 holes at the same time hit off time.

Wednesday, the ladies play their Monthly Medal.m

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday is a stableford for the ladies.

Saturday, March 13, is a stableford for the men. The ladies will play a par event.

Sunday will be a medley stableford and also and the last chance for the men to complete the 2nd round of the presidents cup.

Saturday, March 20, is the Inverell Golf Club 4 Person Ambrose sponsored by Morgan’s Home Maintenance and Glass.
