Golf Report for the week ending 20/10/2020
The Club ran its Campbell and Freebairn Inverell Open over the weekend. Results are in the men’s and mixed reports
The ladies held a highly successful AGM on Wednesday filling all positions. Helen Lockwood is the new president, and a list of other office bearers is listed on the Inverell Golf Club website in the women’s section https://www.inverellgolfclub.org/
The Clubs AGM will take place Wednesday October 28, 6pm start at the Club House. Please collect, complete and return a nomination form prior to the day if you are interested in being on the Board or know someone that you would like to nominate.
Inverell will host the NSW Women’s Golf Medal District playoff tomorrow Wednesday, October 21. Players from Glen Innes, Armidale and Guyra will join the Inverell ladies to decide who will represent the New England District Golf Association in Sydney. To qualify for the District playoff a player must have had the lowest total nett score after 6 rounds of stroke events in their own town.
Inverell representatives will be Sandra Williams in Division 1 and Helen Edwards in Division 2.
The Campbell and Freebairn Open Mixed 4-ball stableford was played on Sunday. The team of Trudi Tonkin and Bob Albinus, with 49 points, were the winners in a countback with Bob Watson and Brenda Zabaks. Naomi Marshall and Bruce Garrett and Kerry Nicholson and Anthony Hyde were next best with 47 points. Ball winners went down to 44 points.
Sunday’s medley stableford was won by Howard Finlen with 39 points. Next best was Justin Bushell.
The week’s Dash for Cash was won by Rob Walters.
The free game in the card draw for unhandicapped players was won by Felipe Silva.
The ladies played a 3-person par event last Wednesday. The winning team was Judy Ditton, Pat Pickering and Kerry Nicholson with +12, while the runner up team was Sandra Williams, Lyn O’Brien and Leonie Davison with +11.
Friday’s stableford was won Gillian Black with an outstanding 40 pints. Next best was Sandra Williams with 36 points.
No ladies took part in Saturday’s comp – saving themselves for the mixed Open on Sunday.
Tuesday’s veterans comp was taken out by Gillian Black yet again. Gillian has hit good form lately and deserves her win. Shirley Horwood was runner up.
Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Leon Fox after a countback with Herb Cox. The young fellas finished with 29 points each. Another young’un, John Green, took 3rd spot in a 4-way countback with 25 points. Doug Shirley won the putting with 17 putts.
The Campbell and Freebairn Men’s Open was played on Saturday. Playing off a handicap of 6 Adam Paton had a brilliant round to finish 2 under par off the stick giving him a nett 62. He had 12 pars and 4 birdies in his round. This gave Adam the Gross win by 7 shots over John Coote. Doug Shirley also hit form to finish one shot behind Adam’s nett score. Next best nett finishes were Nigel Hill and Ken Austin, nett 64, Steve Glover and Matt Sparke, 65, Marc Borgas and Rusty Brien, 66. Ball Comp winners went down to 69.
Gross Grade winners and runners up were, A Grade - Adam Paton and John Coote, B grade – Harry Edmonds and Dave Schofield, C Grade – Marc Borgas and Dave Wargent.
Nett Grade winners and runners up were, A grade – Nigel Hill and Steve Glover, B Grade – Rod Jones and Howard Finlen, C Grade – Doug Shirley and Ken Austin
Ross Tutt showed some good form to take out Tuesday’s veterans golf with 39 points. Barry Young, 38 points took 2nd spot in a countback with Gordon Dean. Ball winners were Noel Tomlinson, Peter Wallace and Col Flood with 36 points. Col Paton is showing good form with the putter. He was this week’s winner with 27 putts.
Col Flood took out the veterans Monthly Mug with a 3-round total of 116. This was 7 points clear of 2nd placed Col Paton.
The next weeks program including the daily Dash for Cash which operates every day except Saturday and the non-handicap card draw which runs throughout the week.
Wednesday, October 21, the ladies play a stroke. The NSW Golf Medal District playoff will also be held on the same day.
The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.
Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.
Saturday will be stablefords for both the men and the women.
Sunday will be a medley stableford.
On Tuesday, the ladies veteran’s play their 9-hole stableford and the men’s veterans play a mystery game with a draw for partners (hit off on the bottom 9) with an 8:30 start).
