Golf Report for the week ending 5/1/2021

Special Note – As from Jan 1, preferred lies will be on the fairway only.

A better covering of grass on the fairways and lack of preferred lies off the fairway has resulted in some lower than usual scores this week.

Men’s Results

Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Barry Croft with 31 points He was followed by Wok Smith and Des Douglass with 27 points. The putting was won by Bill Wade with 16 putts.

Matt Penberthy was a stand-out in Saturdays’ stableford. Matt finished with 42 points; 5 clear of 2nd placed Harry Edmonds. Harry, now playing off 9, took 2nd spot in a countback with Ashley Walters and Phil Fox. Next best were Braden Gainey and Dave Schofield with 36 points. Ball winners went down to 34 points.

Highlight of the day for Dave Worgan was a ‘Hole in One’ on the 6th. No doubt, Dave will give you all the details of his stance, follow through etc if you have some spare time and care to ask.

Tuesday’s vet’s golf has resumed. The winner this week was Dave Ryan with 41 points. He beat newcomer, Mark Lane, in a countback. Leon Fox, 37, was 3rd followed by Allen Bujack, 36, and Steve Corbett and Howard Finlen, 35, in countbacks.

Leon Fox was the best in the putting with 27 putts.

 

Ladies Results

Helen Lockwood, with 37 points, was the winner of Wednesday’s stableford. Bronwyn Thorley, Sue Urquhart, Julie Clark and Sandy Cook all finished with 36 points.   

Saturday’s stableford was won by Sandra Williams with 32 points. It was tough going.

 

Mixed Results

There was a very small field for New Year’s Day’s medley stableford. Geoff Bucknell was the winner with 34 points.

Lachlan Green was best in for Sunday’s medley stableford with 42 points. Justin Bushell, 38, and Ben Butler, 37, were next best.

There were good entries in this week’s 9-hole ’Dash for Cash’. Troy Dawson, with 22 points, was very pleased with his win as this is a winner takes all competition and Troy collects $75 for his effort.

 

The next weeks program including the daily Dash for Cash, men and women, which operates daily except Saturday and the non-handicap card draw which runs throughout the week.

Wednesday, January 6, the ladies play a stableford.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday is a stableford for the ladies.

Saturday, January 9, is the Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug for the men and a stableford for the women.

Sunday will be a medley stableford ie men and women.

On Tuesday, the men’s vets men play their stableford starting with the 8:30 shotgun start. The ladies vets are in recess.

 

 

The Sapphire Cup is fast approaching. Details of the ‘Cup’ which will be played January 30 and 31, are on the Inverell Golf Club website under ‘Events’
