Golf Report for the week ending 3/11/2020
There was a good attendance at the Clubs AGM on Wednesday where Bob Watson was reelected club president. The full makeup of the Board and committees will be made at the upcoming Board meeting.
Congratulations go to Wendy Alexander and Sue Urquhart who finished 2nd in the Keno ‘Let’s Play Ambrose’ golf Regional final at Coffs Harbour on Sunday. The ladies finished behind the Coffs Harbour pair after recording a gross 83 and nett 70.75.
This is a big week in the golf calendar for both the men and the women. The ladies finish their 36-hole 4-ball stroke Wednesday and their stableford competition Saturday while the men play their Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug and complete the Hoyt Cup and the Order of Merit on Saturday. The Marquart Jug and Mills Plats finalists will be decided by the following weekend.
The ladies played their first round of their 36 hole 4-ball stroke on Wednesday. The winning pair was Leonie Davison and Sue Urquhart with nett 66. Pat Pickering and Lyn O’Brien, 67, were next followed by Helen Edwards and Julie Clark and Julie McRae and Helen Lockwood with 68 nett. The 2nd round will be played tomorrow, Wednesday November 4.
Friday’s stableford was won by Kerry Nicholson with 37 points. Next best were Brenda Zabaks, 32, and Bronwyn Thorley, 31.
A small field played Saturday’s ladies stableford. Brenda Zabaks was the winner of in a countback with Sandy Cook.
Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Des Dougless, 29 points, in a countback with Ken Austin. Next best was Greg Brabrant with 28 points.
The putting was won by Des Douglass with 16 putts.
A strong field turned up for Saturday’s stableford, with many returning excellent cards. Anthony Hyde was the winner with an impressive 43 points. He was followed by Rowan Butler who finished with 41 points playing off as handicap of 7. Luke Bourke, Bill Dickson and Don Sims all finished with 38 points and then Dave Worgan, Dave Ryan and Richard Black each with 37 points.
Tuesday’s veterans golf was taken out by Dick Hudson in a countback with Leon Fox on 39 points. Jim Shadlow came in 3rd with 37 points. Ball winners were Graham Moore, 36, and Barry young and John Foulcher with 35 points.
Another good field was out for Sunday’s medley stableford. Newcomer, Lachlan Green, playing off 38 after 5 comp games, will no doubt be looking at a different handicap when he lines up for his next round. Lachlan finished with 45 points to blitz the field ahead of Michael Williams who may have thought his 42 was enough for a win. Corey Borthwick, 39, and Peter Bucknell and Mat Penberthy with 37 also produced good rounds. Di Shadlow, with 35 points, was the nearest lady to the winning circle.
The 9-hole ’Dash for Cash’ was won Morgan Reece with 17 points in a 3 way countback.
The next weeks program including the daily Dash for Cash which operates every day except Saturday and the non-handicap card draw which runs throughout the week.
Wednesday, November 4, the ladies play the 2nd round of their 36-hole 4-ball stroke.
The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.
Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.
Saturday, November 7, the ladies play the final round of their stableford competition while the men play the Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug. This will also be the final round of the Hoyt Cup and the final playoff round for the 2020 Order of Merit for the men.
Sunday will be a medley stableford.
On Tuesday, the ladies veteran’s play their 9-hole stableford and the men’s veterans play a stableford with an 8:30 start.
