Golf Report for the week ending 8/12/2020
Wendy Alexander was the winner of Wednesday’s stableford with an excellent 41 points. She was followed by Helen Lockwood, Teena Myler and Helen Tickle, each with 36 points.
Pat Pickering was the winner of Friday’s stableford with 32 points. Next best was Kerry Nicholson with 30 points.
Saturday’s stableford was won by Nicky Cusack with 38 points. Next best were Leigh Hobbs and Sue Urquhart with 33 points.
Thursday’s 12-hole comp, a 4-ball best ball, was won by Ken Uebergang and John Watts with 33 points. Steve Kent & Leon Fox, John Green & Ross Tutt and Barry Croft and Rod Jones took the next 3 spots, each pair with 31 points.
The putting was won by Tom Kennedy with 15 putts.
The Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug was played on Saturday. The winner, with a brilliant nett 66, was Matt Warrell. Matt, playing off 7 recorded 4 birdies, 7 pars and 7 bogeys.
The Monthly Mug Grade winners were A Grade – Luke Bourke with nett 69, B Grade – Gary Hadland with nett 68 and C/D Grade – Dave Ryan with nett 67.
Place getters were Lachlin Coakes, 68, Nick Cummings, Ben Watling, Tony Baldwin, John Coote and Jason Shaw with 69 and Adrian king, Steve Collins, Brian McLennan, Bruce Garrett and Phil Goddard with nett 70.
The winners of the last 12 men’s Monthly Mug’s played off for the Gold Mug on Saturday. The winner with his nett 66 was Matt Warrell. Not far behind were Tony Baldwin and John Coote each with nett 69.
98 players turned up for the Ashford Pennants on Sunday. Scratch was won by Glen Innes, 3 ahead of Inverell. The nett was won by Emmaville.
Tuesday’s veteran golf was taken out by Leon Fox with an outstanding 40 points. Gordon Dean was runner up with 36 and he was followed by Jim Shadlow, Wok Smith, Larry Finney and Graham Moore, each with 35 points. The putting was won by Gordon Dean with 27 putts in a countback with Graham Moore.
The vets had their Championship presentation at the end of play. This event is decided in 3 divisions and adds each players best 7 scores during monthly mug competitions.
Division 1 winners were Gordon Dean and Larry Finney tied on 254 points. Division 2 winner was Leon Fox with 244, one ahead of Col Paton. Division 3 was another tie with Barry Young and Peter Bucknell finishing with 244 points.
Congratulation go to Jim Shadlow on his election to the 10-member executive of the NSW Veteran’s Golfers Association.
Sunday’s medley stablefords was well attended by a group of Moree players. Winner of the day was Warren McFadyen with 38 points. Locals, Geoff Bucknell, 36, and Tim Moses and Greg Bushell, 35 points took the next three spots.
Last week’s 9-hole ’Dash for Cash’ was won Julie Clark with 21 points.

Jim Shadlow - long serving Presdent/Secretary/Treasurer of New England veterans golf has now been elected to the
10 - member executive of NSW Veterans Golf.
The next weeks program including the daily Dash for Cash which operates every day except Saturday and the non-handicap card draw which runs throughout the week.
Wednesday, December 9, the ladies play a stableford.
The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.
Friday’s the ladies play a stableford.
Saturday, December 12, the ladies play a stableford and the men will play for the Christmas Cup, a 4BBB v’s par.
Sunday will be a medley stableford.
On Tuesday, the men’s veterans play a stableford with an 8:30 start. The ladies vets have gone into recess.
