Golf Report for the week ending 1/9/2020
Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Barry Holland with an amazing 36 points. Next best were Rod Jones with 33 points and Barry Croft with 31 points. The putting was won in a countback by Steve Kent with 17 putts.
The men played their 4-ball stroke championships on Saturday under beautiful conditions. There were some excellent scores handed in – none better than Ken and John Austin who finished with nett 59. Jason and Lachlin Coakes, Bob Albinus and Steve Corbett and Harry and Ted Edmonds came in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in countbacks with nett 60. The gross winners were the team of Ben Watling and John Coote with a score of 66 off the stick.
A single stroke was played in conjunction with the 4-ball. Green keeper, Ben Watling, had a brilliant round. Playing off a handicap of 7, Ben parred the course to finish with nett 63 and a 3-shot lead over 2nd placed Harry Edmonds. Playing off +1 Matt McHarg finished 3 under par off the stick and a nett 68 to take 3rd spot and the best individual gross for the day.
Sunday saw the men out again to play for the qualifying spot in the Keno 2 person Ambrose. Luke Bourke and Jason Coakes combined to take the event with a score of 61.75. Luke and Jason qualify to take part along with John Coote and Helen Tickle in the Regional final at Tamworth, October 11.
Tuesday’s veteran’s was won by the ever reliable Richard Black, 38 points, in a countback with another reliable Gordon Dean. Peter Lloyd and Steve Kent finished with 36 and Graham Moore 35 to take the ball prizes. Steve kent won the Ron Rampling putting comp with 30 putts.
Wednesday saw the ladies play a par event. Helen Edwards, with +3 was back in the winners circle in a countback with Lyn O’Brien. Next best was Leigh Hobbs with +2.and then Lynne Lamrock with +1.
Friday’s stableford was won by Pat Pickering with an outstanding 40 points. Helen Tickle, 36 points, and Gillian Black, 35 points, were her nearest rivals.
Brenda Zabaks was best in on Saturday with 38 points. She was followed by Leigh Hobbs, 37, and Brodie Smith with 36 points.
Lyn O’Brien was the winner of Tuesday’s veteran ladies comp. She was followed by Pat Pickering.
The next weeks program is.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26 the ladies play a stableford and will play the top 9 twice because of green coring.
The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.
Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.
Saturday will be the men play their Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug. This will be a chance to pick up spots in the Hoyt Family Cup and the Order of Merit.
Sunday will be a medley stableford.
On Tuesday, the veteran men will play their stableford with an 8:30am shotgun start while the ladies’ veterans will play their 9-hole comp.

Ben watling parred the course
