Golf Report for the week ending 8/9/2020

Congratulations go to Brett Drewitt on his winning of the Lincoln Land Championship with 19 under par for the four rounds. The Lincoln Land Championship is a golf tournament on the Korn Ferry Tour held at Panther Creek Country Club, Illinois.

On the local scene, congratulations go to the Black family, Richard, Gillian and Matt who took out four events over the last eight days. Richard won last Tuesdays veterans, 3 days later Gillian won Friday’s ladies and next day Matt won Saturday’s monthly mug. Richard won the men’s again this Tuesday. Well done all.

Men’s Results

Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Bill wade with 34 points. Next were John Green and Gordon Dean with 32 points. Gordon also won the putting with 17 putts.

The men played their Sutton Insurance Brokers Monthly Mug on Saturday under ideal conditions weather wise. The greens had been cored during the week, so they were and will remain difficult for a short period.

Newcomer, Matt Black and Billy Blyth finished with great rounds of nett 62. Matt took the ‘Mug’ in a countback and while he won the ‘Mug’ he has lost 6 shots off his handicap.

Grade winners were A Grade – Ian Jeffery, 68, B Grade – Ted Edmonds 69, C/D Grade – Billy Blyth, 62.

Ball winners were John Stansfield, 64, and then John Green and Rob Walters, 66, Graham Moore and Brooke Sheppard, 68, and John Austin, Simon Green and Rusty Brien, 69.

Will Williamson was best in on Sunday with 34 points. Close behind with 33 points was Aaron Baker.

Tuesday’s veterans comp was taken out by Richard Black yet again. Richard finished with 38 points and won in a countback with Ron Cheshier. Larry Finney was 3rd with 36 points followed by Leon fox, 34 and John Green and Tim Newberry with 33 points.

Greg Brabrant won the putting with 36 putts.

The Hoyt Cup is quickly coming to a close with only two monthly mugs to be played before the ‘Cup’ winner is decided. The winner will be the person with the lowest best 8 nett total for the 12 monthly mugs, starting from last December. Steve Kent is the current leader with a 8 scores totalling 570. Next best are Bob Watson, 575, John Coote, 578, and Adam Paton, 580.

The Order of Merit is now into the playoff rounds with 60 players qualifying to continue. Again, the next two Monthly Mugs will determine the final placings. Ian Jeffery leads this multi-round competition followed by Harry Edmonds, John Coote, Steve Kent and John Standsfield.


Ladies Results

Helen Tickle continued her good form on Wednesday to take out the stableford comp with 40 points. Helen Edwards has also been in good form for a while now. She finished with 37 points to take 2nd spot ahead of Anne Coote with 36. They were followed by Teena Myler and Julie Clark with 35 points.

Gillian Black kept the dinner table conversation going when she joined husband Richard in this week’s winning circle by taking out Friday’s ladies stableford with 37 points. Pat Pickering was next best with 35 and then Brenda Zabaks with 34 points.

Ange Driscoll was best in on Saturday with 36 points followed by Brenda Zabaks with 34.

Visitor, Joan Crisp, was the winner of Tuesday’s veteran lady’s competition. She was followed by Helen Tickle.

The next weeks program is. Wednesday, September 9, the ladies play a single stableford.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.

Saturday, September 12, the men and ladies will both single stablefords.

Sunday will be a medley stableford. This will also be the last chance to play the 2nd round of the Marquart Jug and 1st round of the Mills Plate and Clayton Cup..

On Tuesday, the men’s veterans have their 8:30am shotgun start while the ladies’ veterans will play their 9-hole comp.
