Golf Report for the week ending 21/7/2020

The Men’s Club Championships which were to start this weekend have been postponed until August 1, 2, 8 and 9.

There has been a computer mishap with email accounts. Some members may not get email from the club until this is rectified.

Note – Membership is due. If your subs are in arrears as of the August 30 2020 your golf link number will be deactivated.


For the Ladies

The ladies started their 3-week Club Championships last Wednesday. Sandy Cook was off to a good start with 87 off the stick and a nett 74 to lead both the nett and gross competitions. Sue Urquhart is equal leader of the nett. Sandy and Sue are followed by Trudi Tonkin with nett 75.

In the gross comp, Liz Hobday is 2nd after recording 92 off the stick. Round 2 of the ladies Championships will be played tomorrow Wednesday July 22.

Friday’s stabelford was taken out by Bronwyn Thorley with a very impressive 40 points. Jan Frater was next best with 35 points followed by Brenda Zabaks and Pat Pickering with 33.

On a beautiful Saturday morning Wendy Alexander recorded 34 points to take out the stableford comp. Brodie Smith was next best with 33 points.

Tuesday’s veterans 9-hole comp was won by Helen Tickle in a countback with Gillian Black.


For the Men

Howard Finlen continued his good form to take the winner’s prize in Thursday’s 12-hole comp with 31 points. He was followed by Gordon Dean, 30 points, and Leon Fox, 29 points. The putting was won by Gordon Dean with 17 putts.

The Marquart Jug Qualifying round was played on Saturday under ideal conditions. Gareth Greenall and Ron Myler paired up to record an outstanding score of nett 56 to be declared winners of the Simon and John Green Trophy. This winning score was 4 shots ahead of five pairs with nett 60. They were Ted and Harry Edmonds, Kevin Campbell and Jack Hepi, Ron and Ben Myler and Brian Winmill and John Austin. A draw for the 1st round of the Jug has been completed and will be played August 15 after the Club Championships.

Sunday’s stabelford was won by Michael Williams with 37 points. He was followed by Luke Bourke, 35, and then Mitch Myler and Jeremy Budda Deen with 33 points.

Tuesday’s veterans played a 4-ball- best ball which was won by Armidale visitors Steve Creagan and Greg Constantine with 43 points. Wok Smith and John Foulcher were the next best with 42 points. Wok and John get to hold the inaugural Alan Kenny Memorial Shield John Williams and Col Flood and Graham Moore and Gordon Dean came in 3rd and 4th with 40 points. The three Inverell teams have earned the right to represent Inverell in the New England 4-ball at Guyra in November.

The individual stableford was won by Wok Smith, 37 points, in a countback with Graham Moore.



The next weeks program is.

Wednesday, July 22 is the 2nd day of the ladies championships.

The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.

Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.

Saturday July 25 will be a stableford for the men and the women.

Sunday will be a medley stableford.

The veteran men will play the final round of their Monthly Mug on Tuesday. Tim Newberry has the lead two shots ahead of Howard Finlen and another two in front of Jim Shadlow.  

The ladies’ veterans will play their 9-hole comp on Tuesday.
