Golf Report for the last week ending 14/7/2020

For the Ladies

The ladies had a good roll-up for Wednesday’s stableford. Di Shadlow had a great round to finish with 36 points and take 1st prize for the day. She was followed by Helen Edwards, 34 points, and Brenda Zabaks, 32 points.

Friday’s stableford was won by the ‘in form’ Pat Pickering with an impressive 38 points. Jan Frater finished with 35 points and Marilyn Young 33 to take 2nd and 3rd places.

With cold conditions and the promise of showers on Saturday small fields turned out for the men’s and women’s events. Sandy Cook, 33 points, had the best score in a very small field for the women.

The cold conditions held through to Tuesday and the 9-hole Veterans comp turned into a social outing.

For the Men

Col Paton, with 28 points, took out Thursday’s 12-hole comp. Ken Austin and Steve Kent finished with 29 points to take 2nd and 3rd spots while Wok Smith won the putting with 15 putts.

Saturday’s modified stableford was won by Ben Myler who had an outstanding 44 points. Richard Black finished 5 points behind Ben to take 2nd spot. Luke Bourke, Steve Kent and Rowan Butler were next best, each recording 36 points.

A better than usual field turned out on Sunday – no doubt some that wouldn’t brave Saturdays conditions saved themselves for Sunday. Best in was Rowan Butler with 39 points. Close behind was John Stansfield with 38 and then Ron and Ben Myler with 37 points.

Eighteen brave players turned up for Tuesday’s veteran’s comp. Wok Smith, playing of a handicap of 13, continued his good form to take the winning prize with 37 points. Bob Watson was next with 36 points and then Graham Moore, Howard Finlen and Tim Newberry finished with 35 points.

The putting was won by Howard Finlen with 27 putts.
