Golf Report for the week ending 25/8/2020

Men’s Results

Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Ken Uebergang, 28 points, in a countback with John Watts. Next best, in a 3-way countback, was Josh Vickery with 27 points.

Putting was won by John Watts with 17 putts.

Another cold and windy day with the odd shower saw players drop out before and during Saturday’s events. Helen Tickle and John Coote combined to win the Keno Mixed 2 person Ambrose qualifier closely followed by Lynne Lamrock and Dave Worgan and Wendy Alexander and Bruce Garrett.

Simon Green’s 37 points was the best score in for the single stableford. Brian Fox managed 35 points and then Herb Cox, Tom Skipper, Graham Moore and Rowan Butler were next best with 33 points each.

Phil Fox had an excellent round on Sunday. He recorded 6 birdies, 9 pars and 3 bogeys to finish with 39 stableford points and take the day’s prize. Next best were Rowan Butler and Tony Schutz with 36 and then Troy Craven and Tony Baldwin, 35, and John Foulcher with 34 points.

Sunday also saw Round 1 of the Marquart Jug finalised. There were some close matches – none closer than the one played between Billy Blyth and Bob Albinus and Graham Moore and David Jones a couple of weeks back on a cold, wet and windy Monday. Their match went to the 21st hole where the old weather toughened farmers Billy and Bob claimed the win. Three other matches went to the 19th hole.

Round 2 must be completed by Sunday 13th of September.

The veterans played a mixture of a Canadian and ambrose on Tuesday. The winning pair were Steve Kent and Peter Lloyd. Second place was taken by John Green and John Foulcher and third by Col Flood and Jim Shadlow.

Ladies Results

Wednesday saw the ladies play their 27-hole foursomes’ championships. Helen Lockwood and Liz Hobday combined well to win the gross while Sandra Williams and Bronwyn Thorley teamed up to take out the nett competition.

Sandra Williams won Friday’s stableford with 34 points. Next best were Bronwyn Thorley, Kerry Nicholson and Gillian Black, each with 30 points.
