Golf Report for the week ending 13/10/2020
This weekend the club will run its Campbell and Freebairn Inverell Open Weekend. The men’s Open is on Saturday October 17th. An Open mixed 4-ball will be played the next day, Sunday 18th.
The Clubs AGM will take place Wednesday October 28 – Please collect, complete and return a nomination form prior to the day if you are interested in being on the Board or know someone that you would like to nominate.
The Regional Finals of the Keno Lets Play Ambrose was played at the Longyard Golf Course over the weekend. Our mixed representatives Helen Tickle and John Coote finished 12th while Luke Bourke and Jason Coates finished 9th in the men’s section. The ladies, Wendy Alexander and Sue Urquhart, play early November in Coffs Harbour.
Brett Drewitt finished his next Korn Ferry Tour event in 46th place with 11 under par. This was played at the Panther Lake Course Orange County National Golf Centre in Florida.
Leonie Davison was the winner of was the winner of Wednesday’s stroke event finishing with nett 68. She was followed by Brenda Zabaks, 70, and Julie Clark and Sandra Williams with 73.
Friday’s stableford was won by Lyn O’Brien with an outstanding 45 points. Her nearest rivals were Pat Pickering and Bronwyn Thorley each with 39 points. Lorna Smith finished with 37 points.
Saturdays stableford was won by Leonie Davison for the 2nd week in a row. Leonie finished with 41 points and probably thinks she has this game under control. That’s golf Leonie. Brenda Zabaks also had an impressive round to to take 2nd spot with 39 points. Brodie Smith and Ange Driscoll finished with 36 points.
Tuesday’s veterans comp was taken out by Gillian Black. She was followed by Helen Tickle
The ladies will hold their AGM after play tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, – all members are encouraged to attend.
Ben Swan was the best in for Sunday’s stableford with 38 points. Close behind were David Hawker, 37, and Matt Reece, 36.
Last weeks Dash for Cash was won by Peter Schofield with 19 points.
The free game in the card draw for unhandicapped players was won by Brady Lennon.
Thursday’s 12-hole comp was won by Doug Shirley with 35 points. He was followed by Geoff Ditton, 33, and Brian Winmill, 29, in a countback. The putting was won by Howard Finlen with 17 putts.
John Foulcher was the stand-out player in Saturday’s stableford finishing with 42 points. Playing off a handicap of 7, John recorded 10 pars and 4 birdies in his score of 71 off the stick. Dave Worgan and Matt O’Reilly were next best with 40 points. They were followed by Peter Schofield, Corey Borthwick, Brooke Sheppard, Scott Moylan and Morgan Reece with 38 points.
The 3rd round of the Marquart Jug and the 2nd round of the Mils Plate and Clayton Shield were finalised on Sunday. The Jug and the Plate will go to the next round must be played by November 15.
Tuesday’s veterans golf was won by Col Flood with an impressive 41 points. Col Paton also had a good round to finish with 40 points. John Williams and Ross Tutt finished with 37 points followed by Noel Tomlinson, 36, and Graham Moore, 35.
The putting was won by Graham Moore, 26 putts, in a count back with Col Paton.
A couple of notes
A couple of new comps have started and will run through daylight saving.
For social players without a handicap – if you complete a card and put it in at the end of your game you will go in a lucky draw for a free game.
For players with a handicap there will be a Dash for Cash running from Sunday to Friday. It will be $5 green fees and $5 comp with the ‘winner take all’ of the comp cash.
If you have Council plant vouchers that you are not using why not drop them to House to Home for the Golf Club use.

Wednesday, October 14, the ladies play a 3 Ball team par with a 9am shotgun start.
The men’s 12-hole comp is on Thursday.
Friday will be a stableford for the ladies.
Saturday is the men’s Open and a par event for the ladies.
Sunday is the Mixed Open.
On Tuesday, the ladies veteran’s play their 9-hole stableford and the men’s veterans play their stableford (hit off on the top 9) with an 8:30 start).
